Loss, grief, letting go — these are familiar words yet, for so many, grief is a silent pain that is, at times, unbearable. Words often do not carry comfort; the turnings of the seasons or particular holiday memories often bring darkness and what feels like depression. Yet within the Resurrection of Jesus, we can find, according to author Henry Nouwen, that the “... love that causes us so much grief and makes us feel so fully the absurdity of death is stronger than death itself” — whether it be the loss of a loved one or the loss of a dream.
During our October Twilight Retreat at St. Francis Center for Renewal, we will reflect together on loss and hope, on grief and love, on letting go of what we thought would be, and invite the Lord to show us that we can find comfort and healing where our wounds hurt most. He will meet us there!
