Sister Marie Glodava

April 24, 1937 - August 13, 2018

Sister M. Marie (Johanna) Glodava, of the School Sisters of St. Francis United States Province, in her 63rd year of Religious Profession, died on August 13, 2018, at St. Francis Convent in Bethlehem, Pa. She was 81.

Sister entered from SS. Cyril and Methodius Parish in Clifton, N.J., and professed first vows in 1955 at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Holy Family College in Philadelphia, Pa., and attended Mount Mercy College in Pittsburgh. She also held a certification in nursery school education from Seton Hall University in New Jersey.    

Sister taught at various elementary schools in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and most recently was a volunteer teacher assistant at St. Ignatius Loyola Regional School in West Lawn, Pa. She was a member of Slovak Catholic Sokol Assembly No. 162 of Clifton, N.J.

Sister loved to watch game shows, The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof. She enjoyed Slovak food, ice cream, cookies, and spending time with family, friends and her community. Her hobbies included traveling, long walks, listening to music and reading biographies. Her love of Christ and the community showed in all she did, in school with the little children she dearly loved, and among the sisters with whom she lived.

Sister Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph F. and Johanna M. (Bigos) Glodava; her brothers Stephen, Joseph, John and Daniel; and one sister, Mary Pituch-Mancin. She is survived by her brother Anthony, her religious community and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sister Marie is buried in her family plot in Clifton, N.J.
