Our International Congregation

Our United States Province is part of the international congregation of the School Sisters of St. Francis, headquartered at our Generalate in Rome, Italy. This website includes information about the good works of our Sisters worldwide.

Mt. Assisi Place

Mt. Assisi Place is the personal care home, formerly known as our Marian Hall Home, that now occupies our former motherhouse property in Pittsburgh, Pa. Dedicated to providing quality, compassionate personal care, Mt. Assisi Place is home to 15 of our Sisters and several family members of our alumnae.

Sisters Place

We are among the communities of women religious in Western Pennsylvania that support Sisters Place, a housing community that aids families experiencing homelessness in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The program guides families toward self-sufficiency with housing and supportive services.

Chrysostom Academy

Located on our property in Bethlehem, Pa., Chrysostom Academy is an Orthodox private school that provides classical, Christian education for grades one through nine. Students are immersed in a culture that puts love of learning and God at the center of all academic pursuits. Enrollment now for Fall 2022.

 

Mount Carmel Guild

Mount Carmel Guild of Trenton, N.J., provides hope and preserves dignity as it feeds the hungry and provides home health nursing services to the elderly. Our own Sister Bernadine Marie Stemnock is part of the team that connects families with much-needed resources.

CSLC

The Catholic Sisters Leadership Council is a collaborative effort of women religious serving western Pennsylvania. Its purpose is to advance the mission of religious communities and promote understanding of women religious, both within their individual congregations and throughout the broader community.

Amazing Scholar Preschool

Our former Mount Assisi Academy Preschool relocated in 2018 to McKnight United Methodist Church in the Ross Township area of Pittsburgh and continues to provide quality, caring kindergarten readiness with a Christian-based curriculum.

St. Ignatius Loyola

St. Ignatius Loyola Regional School in West Lawn, Pa., follows the mission to teach as Jesus did. Students grow in their knowledge and love of God based on the Gospels and teachings of the Catholic Church. Our own Sisters Pat Brennan and Rosemarie Bartnicki minister there.

 

St. Gerard

St. Gerard Catholic High School and Regional Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, strives to equip every student with the ability, will and desire to passionately impact the world for Jesus Christ through knowledge, faith and service. Our own Sister Jo Goolish teaches art there.

Franciscan Pilgrimages

Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs is a non-profit ministry of the Assumption BVM Province, Franciscans. In nearly 50 years, it has guided 20,000+ pilgrims from 45 countries on pilgrimage, facilitating the sharing of spirituality of place and the Franciscan vision of life. The staff consists of more than 50 Franciscan and lay men and women from all the branches of the Franciscan family, including our own Sister Nancy Celaschi.

LCWR

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) is an association of the leaders of congregations of Catholic women religious in the United States. Founded in 1956, the conference assists its members to collaboratively carry out their service of leadership to further the mission of the Gospel in today’s world.

St. Matthias

The Catholic Community of St. Matthias is a robust faith community in Somerset, N.J. Our own Sisters Mary Therese Sherwood and Maria Derecola serve there, as have several other of our Sisters in the past.

 

PRVC

The Pittsburgh Religious Vocation Council (PRVC) is a collaborative effort of various women's and men's religious communities in the Pittsburgh area, including the School Sisters of St. Francis. It provides information for people who are curious about or interested in entering religious life. Our own Sister Lorita Kristufek serves on the council.

Northside Catholic

Providing a choice for Catholic education in the Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights area and surrounding neighborhoods, Northside Catholic Assumption Academy offers children in preschool through grade eight the opportunity to learn in a Christ-centered environment. The school was created through merging the former St. Cyril of Alexandria, Assumption BVM and and Cardinal Wright schools. Our own Sister Carol Ann Papp teaches there.

The Barber Institute

The Barber National Institute, based in Erie, Pa., provides children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral health challenges and their families the education, support, and resources needed to be self-reliant, independent, and valued members of their community. In addition, the professionals who serve them are provided world-class education and training. Our own Sister Kevin Berdis works with adults there.

Holy Family Manor

Located in Bethlehem, Pa., Holy Family Manor has been well known for many years for long-term skilled nursing care in a home-like setting where residents are treated with respect, dignity and compassion. Today Holy Family Manor is a Preferred Provider of Short Term Rehabilitation for both Lehigh Valley Health Network and St. Luke's University Health Network.
