Sister Marcia Fidishun

August 22, 1933 - April 14, 2015

Sister M. Marcia (Eleanor) Fidishun died on April 14, 2015, in Bethlehem, Pa. She was 81 and in her 58th year of religious life.

Sister entered the community in 1956 from St. Michael Parish in Tresckow, Pa., and professed her first vows in 1957 in Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pa. In her early years as a professed sister, she attended classes at Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) in Pittsburgh and Holy Family College in Philadelphia, Pa.

Sister Marcia taught the primary and middle grades in many parish schools in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Jersey, and from 1985 to 1988 was principal of SS. Cyril & Methodius School in Clifton, N.J. After more than 30 years in grade schools, Sister Marcia spent 14 years teaching children in preschool and afterschool care. She was worked as a clerical aide in the finance office at Monocacy Manor from 2004 to 2013 were spent at Monocacy Manor.

In her spare time Sister Marcia enjoyed working on crafts, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She will be missed by the sisters, her family and the care givers at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem, Pa., where she spent her last two years.

Sister is remembered for her gift of joy that she spread to everyone, especially when she dressed up as Mrs. Claus on Christmas day. A faithful woman of prayer, she prayed for the sick and was faithful in sending cards for every occasion. It was said of Sister Marcia that once you were a part of her life, you were a part of her correspondence.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Veronica (Kozel) Fidishun; brothers Bernard, Vincent and Patrick; and her sister Ethel Sofianek. She is survived by her religious community, her brothers Joseph and Thomas, her sister Elizabeth Ceol, and her nieces and nephews.

Sister Marcia is buried in St. Francis Cemetery at Monocacy Manor in Bethlehem, Pa.
