Sister Doloretta Zugell

December 8, 1923 - January 16, 2014

Sister M. Doloretta (Mary Frances) Zugell died on January 16, 2014, at Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh, Pa.  She was 90 and in her 67th year of religious life.

Sister entered the community from St. Mary Assumption in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1944 and professed her first vows in 1946 in Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) in Pittsburgh.

Sister Doloretta taught grades one through five at parish schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia and played the organ in many of the parish churches. Skilled in typing, Sister was the secretary for the Pittsburgh Diocesan Office in Pittsburgh and was a Census Bureau enumeration clerk for the Federal Government in 1970. 

From 1976 through 1990 she worked in the Department of Communication for the Diocese of Pittsburgh and was responsible for arranging the weekly televised Sunday Liturgy, contacting the celebrants, choirs and participants. From 1984 to 1987 she was the producer for the Mass. Sister Doloretta retired from active ministry in 1999 and spent the remainder of her years in the ministry of prayer.

Remembered as a woman of deep faith, Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bernard, Joseph, Louis and John. She is survived by her religious community, her brothers Frank and Steve and several nieces and nephews.

Sister is buried in St. Francis Cemetery at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pa.
