Classmates Pattie Oldaker Smith and Janie Hackworth Costello visited with Sisters Pat Marie Buranosky, Georgette Dublino and Rosalia Giba the same weekend.

The Mount Assisi Academy Class of 1967 gathered on September 23, 2017, at Shannopin Country Club in Ben Avon, Pa., for a 50th reunion, welcoming back 29 of the 62 graduates.

The group honored four classmates who have died – Debby Demjan, Mary Kay Vogel, Judy Crummie and Judi Bjalobok – and remembered all the sisters who taught them. The organizing committee of Janie Hackworth, Susie Sneider, Paulette Spirko, Joannie Pfeiffer, Janet Kosarich, Chris Stroyne, Pattie Oldaker and Marietta Kachmar put together a wonderful event with a great venue, delicious food and fun music, including two albums cut during the class’s Glee Club heyday

The class of 1967 crashed through many glass ceilings over the years. Doris Scott was Pennsylvania’s first female state trooper; Rita Sullivan was the first female accountant with the Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C.; and Loretta Spitz was one of the first two female engineers hired at WTAE-TV.

“Sister Therese would have been proud of us as we raised our voices to ‘The Gleam on the Hilltop,’” says Joannie. “It was wonderful to see our old friends, and we look forward to seeing each other again soon.”

Note: Since this reunion, several class members have reconnected and get together regularly to reminisce.
