Back by popular demand! Join us for Part 2 of Mark Anderson’s spiritual photography workshop! Capturing an image — a moment in time — in a photograph from your camera, your phone, or even searching through pictures others have taken on your computer or photo album can be a helpful and enriching vehicle for prayer and spiritual renewal. This workshop will explore ideas for how photography can be a facilitating activity for prayer and allow us to share our awareness of Creation with the One who created us and those we love.
We will share experiences where the activities of photography and prayer have overlapped in our lives, discuss helpful tips to make the techniques of photography easier and more enjoyable, discuss ideas for sharing our experiences of Creation and spirituality through photography, and spend some time on the grounds of St. Francis Center for Renewal experiencing photography as a form of prayer. After this workshop we will feel empowered and confident to use our time enjoying photography as an ongoing opportunity to engage in conversation with our Creator.
This program will be held onsite at St. Francis Center for Renewal. Bring the camera (or cameras) of your choice so you can capture a moment from what is sure to be an enriching experience for you. Your smartphone also is fine. Participants are welcome to join us for coffee at 9:30 a.m.
Facilitator: Mark Anderson
Suggested Registration Offering: $20
About the Presenter: Mark Anderson is an amateur photographer, nature enthusiast and spiritual pilgrim on a continuous search for God. A resident of Bethlehem, Pa., for more than 25 years, Mark is the North American sales manager for the Passenger Railway Division of Huber Suhner, a Swiss Electrical Products company. He grew up in the mountains of Virginia, where his love of God, love of nature, and experimentation with photography and art began. Mark continues to pursue praise of God and Creation through art in many forms — drawing, writing, gardening, travel, ornithology (birding), fishing, and participation in the ministry of the Church. The father of two wonderful human children and two very enjoyable dogs, Mark is a practicing Catholic who grew up as a Methodist, and has been a trained facilitator of the Disciple Bible Study Program. “Photography has become a very enjoyable, restful, and spiritual pastime,” he says. “From capturing seasonal moments in nature, to contemplative places of worship and peace, to awe-inspiring views which convey a message of God’s love and the greatness of Creation.”
