How do we face the challenges life provides and grow from them as we grow older? How do we live with the physical diminishment so natural in the aging process? Where are the joys of ageing we hear about? These and other questions of our human development will be in Growing in Wisdom, Age & Grace, a contemplative exploration of a “third cycle of life.”
We are familiar with the “first half of life” and the “second half of life.” In the middle, we have been introduced to “the mid-life crisis.” Now, with the extending of our lifespan into the 80s, 90s and even breaking the 100-year ceiling, might there be a third life cycle? What might God be calling us to in our ever-expanding lives … even in the face of our physical diminishment? Join us as we sharing our own life experiences, hear what the experts are saying regarding our ever-lengthening lifespan, and envision what the future of humanity might look like.
Presented by our St. Francis Center for Renewal, this series will be conducted entirely online through Zoom. Participation in previous sessions is not necessary.

About the Presenter: A spiritual director charting her own growth and that of her directees for the last almost 50 years, Patricia Herbst first became interested in the aging process while working in a nursing home many years ago. Why did some folks age so well, becoming very peaceful and beautiful while others were reduced to bitterness and regret and all other levels in between? How can we do our living and dying better? Now in her 80s, Pat opens the conversation to a wider community, dialoging with others to share experiences and insights into this challenging aging process. Currently living in Virginia, Pat and her husband of more than 65 years have five children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
