Sister Roberta Ann Voytek

October 1, 1922 - March 3, 2014

Sister M. Roberta Ann Voytek died on March 3, 2014, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was 91 and her 73rd year of religious life.

Sister entered the community from Holy Family in Erie, Pa., in 1937 and professed first vows in 1941 in Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) in Pittsburgh.

During her years of ministry, Sister Roberta Ann taught the primary and middle grades at parish schools in Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon and New Jersey. From 1985 to 2002, she used her clerical skills in schools, the office for Pittsburgh’s Catholic Cemeteries Association, and the former St. Francis Academy in San Antonio, Texas, where she ministered from 1992 to 2002.

Sister spent the next eight years doing community service in San Antonio, Texas; Uniontown, Pa.; and at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh. Sister Roberta Ann spent her last years in the ministry of prayer and always ready to help when needed.

She will be remembered by many as a gentle, peace-filled, kind, unassuming and a prayerful person. She was quiet with a simple and sweet smile. A gift of something as small as a candy bar or an ice cream cone made her happy.  Sister loved teaching young children, and the high school girls always felt that she had respect for them and accepted them for who they were.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Mary Carnicky, and her brothers John and Frank. She is survived by her religious community, a sister-in-law, cousins and a step-niece.

Sister is buried in St. Francis Cemetery at Mt. Assisi Place in Pittsburgh, Pa.
