ALUM Janice Kirkwood Markewinski SHARES REFLECTIONS ON THE CLASS OF 1968’S 50TH REUNION IN 2018

Sometimes you just have to party to mark the day, and the Mount Assisi Class of 1968 did it in style! Classmates and spouses gathered on July 28, 2018, at Shannopin Country to celebrate our 50th reunion with food, drinks, cake and a combination of warm hugs, smiles and even some tears.

As we reconnected, some commented that this was our time to be 18 again, and it seemed as though we never skipped a beat. Sister Pat Marie Buranosky – better known to us as Sister Mark – was a special surprise guest. It was a delight to share the evening with her.

Thank goodness there were name tags with graduation pictures on them to help identify friends we hadn’t seen since graduation day 50 years ago! A memorabilia display was among the event highlights, reminding us of so many special times and events shared between 1964 and 1968 at “The Mount.”

Oldies played in the background all evening, as we reminisced, took photos, laughed a little and caught up with each other. We shared accomplishments, family details, travel experiences, careers, schooling, volunteer interests, who still looked the same, and who still fit into our prom dresses. It was fun hearing about these fun facts as we got to see what some of the girls had been up to over the years.

The beautiful event program included the alma mater, school song and cheer, and Peace Prayer of St. Francis. A memorial display honored several classmates who have passed. Sympathies to the families of Sharon Buckley Seibert, Carol Connelly Herrle, Rebecca Fore, Jean McCue Goehring, Catherine Malloy Farlow and Carol Paladino Billing were expressed as they were remembered.

The evening ended with group photos and a singing of The Hallelujah Chorus. Some of us visited Mount Assisi the following morning for Mass, continental breakfast, a full tour of the buildings and a little time with the sisters. Fondly we remember that, “for a brief moment, there was a Camelot.”
