The 2017 Provincial Gathering for the School Sisters of St. Francis was held at Monocacy Manor in Bethlehem, Pa. from August 3-5. On August 2, the directors of the Associate Program met to finalize a new agenda for the year. In the early afternoon of August 3, the local ministers met to view Lynn Levo’s video on Being Leaders Today, as well as to discuss areas of concern in communal living. The local treasurers then met regarding budgets.

The highlight of the gathering was a presentation on August 4 by Brother Edward Coughlin, OFM on Franciscan Discernment. The evening featured a unique Franksgiving dinner, during which sisters were grouped into nine clusters of six for appetizers, then another group of six for the dinner and a third group for dessert. For each part of the meal, the sisters were asked to share their thoughts on a variety of questions to help them get to know each other better. The sisters really enjoyed this activity and came to discover some unique and fun facts about some of the other sisters.

The remainder of the Gathering was filled in with the provincial and treasurer’s reports as well as completing new forms for end-of-life care. It ended with a festive Liturgy for the 10th anniversary of the United States Province, which included the annual Missioning Service.

For those sisters who could not attend, the talk by Brother Ed was sent via internet live, and a smaller meeting was held at Mount Assisi the following week to present all the talks and to prepare the forms for end-of-life care.

Our sisters who attended this summer’s Provincial Gathering assemble on the steps outside the White House at Monocacy Manor.
