Our community mourns the loss of Sister M. Marcia (Eleanor) Fidishun, age 81 and in her 58th year of Profession, who died on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in Bethlehem, Pa.

Sister entered the community from St. Michael Parish, Tresckow, Pa. in 1956 and professed her first vows in 1957 in Mount Assisi Convent Chapel in Pittsburgh, Pa. In her early years as a professed sister she attended classes at Mount Mercy College in Pittsburgh, Pa., now known as Carlow University, and Holy Family College, Philadelphia, Pa.

During her years of ministry, Sister Marcia taught the primary and middle grades in many parish schools in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Jersey where our sisters ministered. From 1985 to 1988, she was the principal of SS. Cyril & Methodius School in Clifton, N.J. After more than 30 years in grade schools, Sister Marcia spent 14 years teaching children in preschool and after-school care. Her last years of active ministry from 2004 to 2013 were spent at Monocacy Manor helping as a clerical aid in the finance office.

In her spare time Sister Marcia enjoyed working on crafts, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and reading. She will be missed by the sisters, her family and the care givers at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem, Pa. where she spent her last two years.

Sister Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Veronica (Kozel) Fidishun, brothers Bernard, Vincent, Patrick, and her sister Ethel Sofianek. She is survived by her religious community, her brothers Joseph and Thomas, her sister Elizabeth Ceol, and her nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the School Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund, 395 Bridle Path Road, Bethlehem, Pa. 18017.
