Our sisters were sad to see a wonderful visit come to an end on August 27 when they bid farewell to Sisters Zdislava Nosková and Maxmiliána Bendová. The two sisters from the Czech Republic spent most of August in the United States visiting with our sisters in Pittsburgh, Bethlehem, Erie and New Jersey to gather information that will be beneficial in working toward beatification of Sister M. Eliška Pretschnerová, OSF.

While here, Sisters Zdislava and Maxmiliána offered a presentation about Sister Eliška’s life and work and gathered witness and testimony from our sisters about their encounters with the beloved leader who helped the congregation persevere through Nazi occupation and Communism in Europe. Sister Eliška died in 1992.

Sisters Zdislava and Maxmiliána also took in popular sites and sounds during their visit, including a trip to New York City to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and the 9/11 Memorial. They also visited Niagara Falls, toured Pittsburgh and visited locations of our eariest roots in the United States.

They will take the testimonials they gathered here back home to include in the rigorous process of moving Sister Eliška toward sainthood.

Pictured Above: Before leaving for their return trip to Prague, the Czech sisters shared a smile with (from left) Sisters Eve Blostic, Karen Buco, JoAnn Knaebel, Marietta Bankos, Marian Sgriccia, Bernadine Marie Stemnock, Pat Marie Buranosky and Rosalia Giba at Mount Assisi.
